I first went to Soda Bar on April of last year because there was going to be a show by Patrick Sweany (who I hadn't heard of at that time) and my friend was telling me I should check him out since he was awesome (which was confirmed by me during the show.) I hadn't been to that bar before, but it was a really close Uber ride and seemed like a fun show to go to alone to take some pics. And boy, am I glad I did. Instantly fell in love with the place. Cheap beer, great music, fun crowds. I kept going back every couple of months just to see what would happen that night. I usually try to go without knowing the bands (just like I did for the first show) and have never been disappointed. They have bands from all genres playing there and they play on a daily basis the majority of the time. I was there last year when The Gore Horsemen played their last show as a band, and there to experience day 1 of the 2 day only reunion of The Henry Clay People a couple of weeks ago. I walked in late one random Saturday night with the wife and a couple of friends only to be greeted by Canadian punk band PUP do a singalong of El Scorcho by Weezer (one of my all time favorite songs) alongside the whole audience and members from the other bands. I was blown away by AJ Froman from the moment their set started. Saw the captivating Harriet Brown do an incredible set that no one knew to expect. The amazing visual and musical experience that was Protomartyr (which if you saw 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, you've heard their music). There are so many more bands that I have been lucky to see there, and I have never been let down. Between the incredible local bands mixed with the out of the country/state ones, this is a bar that you must check out. Next up on the agenda for me at Soda Bar? TOO MANY ZOOZ! Been wanting to check them out since I first saw their viral NY subway video and just found out they are playing there. Who knows, maybe I'll see you there. You won't regret it.
